Next Generation Library Strategy

The City of Edinburgh Council recently published its Next Generation Library Strategy, which proposes developments to the library service and different opening times for most libraries. The Council is now performing an extensive consultation on this strategy.

As a representative serving on either a Community Council or a Neighbourhood Partnership, you have an important part to play in responding to this consultation on behalf of your community. The Council would like to invite you to consider the impact of the strategy on your community by completing the following survey:  CEC Library Survey

The survey contains information on the background to this work and links to the strategy document. The on line survey will run until 30th January 2012.

The results of the consultation as a whole will be reported to the Culture and Leisure Committee at the end of February.

You will be able to see what other community representatives from across the city have said by using this link:   CEC Library Survey views

If you have any questions about the consultation, please contact Christine Doherty, at the CEC South West NP Office, in the first instance. But please do copy in any observations to our secretary.. Contact via Home Page.

CPZ Extension Consultation

The public consultation for the possible introduction of Controlled Parking in the Ashley/Harrison area will commence on 7 October and run until 1 November 2011.

The proposal would add Ashley Drive, Ashley Gardens, Ashley Grove, Ashley Terrace, Cowan Road, Harrison Gardens, Harrison Place and Ogilvie Terrace to Zone S4, meaning that parking restrictions would apply on Monday to Friday between 08:30 and 17:30 hours.

Controlled Parking would mean that parking in this area would be limited to permit holders and to those making use of the pay-and-display facilities.

Further information about this proposal is available on the Council’s website, www.edinburgh.gov.uk/priorityparking. You can also see a copy of the plans during the consultation dates at the City Chambers, 249 High Street, EH1 1YJ.

Any decisions will only be taken once the evidence has been fully considered, and consensus is reached with stakeholders.

Background
An Initial Options Appraisal Report was presented to the Ministerial Advisory Group on fire and rescue in December 2010. The report was welcomed and the group agreed that some measure of structural reform would be necessary to maintain and improve frontline outcomes. They also agreed to move forward together in this process and look more closely at the options presented.
