Speaking up for the people of Merchiston
Issues

The range of concerns that people bring to us is very wide and covers major issues such as planning and licensing applications, parking, anti- social behaviour (especially graffiti and litter), local health services, the maintenance of public parks, local transport policy, and HMOs (houses in multiple occupation).

These are discussed at public meetings, usually with an illustrative presentation, and then referred to the relevant authority along with a formal community council view. MCC works closely with local ward councillors, our MSP, the Police and with officials of Edinburgh City Council.

Some concerns that come to us are of a different order, but of no less importance to the people who raise them.

These include

  • seagull nuisance,
  • noise disturbance from low-flying helicopters,
  • unwelcome door-to-door salesmen,
  • prohibited tree-felling,
  • bogus workmen,
  • potholes,
  • noisy van deliveries,
  • blocked drains,
  • unauthorised satellite dishes,
  • irresponsible cyclists,
  • unkempt front gardens in rented tenement properties,
  • poor street lighting – the list goes on and on ………………

We can facilitate resolutions to many of these. Unfortunately some are totally out with our realm of influence e.g. the overflying tourist helicopter trips.
